During the lifetime of having a website, one of the big decisions to be made is who to host your website.  Website hosting is like renting the land on which you then build your store – you don’t own it, but you can’t have the store without it!

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases and sometimes recommend products from other sellers at no extra cost you. For more details see my disclosure policy and privacy policy.

There are lots of different website hosting, some that are good and some not so much.  So, when my current plan was due for renewal, I knew it was time to switch.  And my switch was to Lyrical Host.  But who are they and why did I make the switch?

Who is Lyrical Host?

Lyrical Host is a relatively small company compared to some of the big names out there in the website hosting world, but you wouldn’t realise it when you deal with them!  The company is based in the UK and has a team in the US and was created after the owners were tired of the same lousy hosting, high prices and unreliable service that we have all experienced at some point.

Another plus for Lyrical Host – it was created for bloggers and small business owners.  Jenni and Joseph are the company’s founders and are still extremely hands-on at all points.  They come from a background of many years in the online world and know what website owners need – and what they don’t.

Core features

One of the things that made Lyrical Host stand out to me was that it is a bespoke WordPress only platform.  This means the people working at the company are WordPress experts and know every feature and quirk of the platform.  They also offer built-in caching to help with website speed, an important ranking factor for SEO.

They have complex server-level security scanning features that help to keep your website safe and also offer automatic core updates.  This means you don’t need to worry about those major WordPress updates as they handle them for you.  There’s also a daily backup included so there’s one less thing for you to have to do – or to pay for separately.

What are their plans?

The first question when you are considering website hosting is the price – and what you get for that money.  Lyrical Host have a simple three tier system, all of which can be paid for monthly, quarterly or annually.  The prices don’t go super low the first year then eye-wateringly high the next, so you always know what you are paying.

Their Tiny plan is for the single website owner and includes 30GB SSD web space and 60GB monthly bandwidth.  This is ideal for the new blogger or for a simple business website and comes with WordPress preinstalled.  At the time of writing, this costs £9.99 a month (prices can be changed to dollars or Euros too).

The middle plan is the Mighty plan, and this handles up to three WordPress websites with 40GB space and 90GB bandwidth.  This is £15.99 a month at the time of the writing.

Finally, their Boss plan covers up to 22 WordPress sites and is the one I went for as I currently have six websites, although some of these are on the backburner!  It offers unlimited webspace and visitors per month, so you don’t need to worry about how big your sites or visitor numbers get.  This plan is £23.99 a month.

There are also features included in every plan including:

  • Free SSL certificates for every website
  • Unlimited subdomains
  • Free website and email migration
  • Free malware scans
  • Free theme installation and setup

Migrating your existing website

What about if you already have a WordPress website and want to move it to Lyrical Host?  This was my situation with my six websites, and I’ll admit I was a little nervous.  I had never migrated websites before and there was definitely an element of ‘what am I doing?’ involved!

First up, the process is very simple.  Get your renewal date for your hosting company and you are ready to start.  You want to do this in advance, at least 7 days before and there is a calendar to book a migration slot that works for you and select your hosting plan.  You will get full information at all stages of the process and on the day of the move, just be around to start the process and sign off everything looks okay at the end.

You can also transfer domain names to them to keep everything simple.  I’m doing this as they come due and there’s a simple process to follow for this.  Then you can view everything in one place on your customer account area.

The customer support

One of the big things that made the switch an easy decision for me was the level of customer support.  I’ve been with Siteground for the last couple of years and while they are very good, sometimes their customer service can be a little generic.  Often, they will give you a blog post to read to solve the problem or tell you to do stuff that’s well above your head.

With Lyrical Host, the support is amazing and personal.  Everything is laid out in an easy to understand way and often, they just sort it out for you rather than giving you a reading essay first.  Response times are really quick, and no question is too small or daft for them to answer!

Community and freebies

There are two other benefits to being a Lyrical Host member that are worth considering and are different to any other hosting company I’ve encountered.

First, there’s the Facebook group.  This is open to members and non-members and is a brilliant place to network with other business owners, chat with fellow Lyrical Host members and also one of the owners, Jenni, is very active in it.  There are regular posts to help you, share your stuff and you can ask all kind of questions.  It is ideal for those things that aren’t worth a support ticket, but you are happy to get some feedback or ideas from other website owners.

Then there’s the freebies and the resource library.  Who doesn’t love some good freebies?  Each month you get something by email, usually stock photos which they take themselves.  Then there’s a whole load of things in the library to help out including:

You get access to all of these and anything new added as a hosting customer, all in a dedicated spot on the main website.

Affiliate program

Once you make the swap, you can also start promoting Lyrical Host to others in a variety of ways – and get paid for it.  They have an affiliate program with loads of assets and tips on it so you can do what I’m doing and write about their service.  You can recommend it to blogging friends or tell other business owners about their service and also make some money yourself – a win-win situation!

You can create your own links and even discount codes so you can track who takes what from where.  There’s loads of information to help you plan your promotions and also tips to make sure you comply with various rules involved with affiliate marketing.

Make the switch

If your hosting is due for renewal and you want a better, more comprehensive and more personal service, I can whole-heartedly recommend Lyrical Host.  Their service is amazing, their prices are competitive and there are loads of extras to help you as a blogger or business owner.

Plus if you use my affiliate link you can get 10% off your first month’s hosting with the code SVS1!  Or if you have any questions, feel free to message me at angela@skylarkvirtualservices.com and I’ll answer them or find out for you!
